Year Six History Visit
Our year six pupils visited the Priest’s
House
Museum
in Wimborne. We had a brilliant day and took part in lots of really enjoyable hands on experiences.
The day began with the whole class being evacuated, including teachers and helpers from school and travelling by coach to the Museum. When we arrived we broke into different groups to experience what it would have been like during World War Two for evacuated children.
We experienced the rations allocated to children and even tried mashed raw parsnip with banana flavouring, spam and a days rations of sweets.
We learnt what school would have been like, with our group leader playing the part of the teacher and getting us to write a postcard home using real ink pot and pen.
We were allowed to try on and feel artefacts from the Second World War, including all the different gas masks.
Two kind volunteers talked about their experiences of being evacuated and showed us lots of pictures of bomb shelters.
Thank you Priest’s
